How did you discover photography?
It took me a while to realise that I was always supposed to have a camera in my hand. Before photography, I was an award-winning, international, luxury wedding planner for almost 10 years. Now I get to dance between both incredible worlds, and I’ve never been happier than when I’m immersing myself in the entire experience - guiding couples through the incredible planning journey and capturing their most precious moments to be preserved for generations.
What’s your most memorable wedding moment?
Joshua and Zahava's Christian wedding was simply divine. This celebration transcended mere symbolism; the essence of community was vividly alive in the heart of this wedding, a theme deeply ingrained in my photography. Despite my personal distance from religion, the warmth and spirit of their church family moved me profoundly - I sobbed with happiness following the ceremony. The atmosphere, charged with soul and spirit and song, left an indelible mark on me. It was an overwhelming and humbling experience in the most magical way.
How Do You Connect with Couples on a Deeper Level?
I love this question, because this really is at the core of what I do. It's not just about capturing images; it's about immersing myself in your story, your why, and your unique dynamics. Beyond the lens, I take the time to understand your narrative, personalities, and every little piece that binds you together. I’ll meet you at the pub, I’ll run around the city with you, I’ll send you screenshots of gowns you’ll look stunning in. The loveliest compliment I often receive from my clients and friends is that my energy is infectious. I approach each collaboration with the genuine intention of making people happy, capturing not just moments but the very souls of those I photograph.
What's Your Favourite Detail You've Captured That Others Might Have Overlooked?
One of my most cherished images is actually the back of a boy's gorgeous little head.
In the midst of the adult chatter, commotion, and vibrant energy at the head of the table, there was this absolutely gorgeous little wedding guest. The intentional unfocused tableau of the bustling table frames him in a moment of quiet contemplation, standing out amidst the adult-centric celebrations. Even the back of his head looks simply angelic. As a mother, I knew how much this image would mean to someone. It's a subtle yet powerful reminder that within the grandeur of a wedding, the most poignant moments often unfold in the smallest, overlooked details - a precious snapshot of innocence and wonder that encapsulates the essence of that celebration. And I can’t get enough of a gorgeous pair of designer bridal shoes.
You Talk About Chasing Micro Stories. Can You Share an Example?
I pride myself on being able to anticipate and unearth the most precious micro-stories and one unforgettable yet truly candid moment stands out vividly. Pre-wedding portraits are something I really encourage and I was photographing a surprise proposal in York. As Sam prepared to pop the question to Saara, the serendipity of two passersby unwittingly positioning themselves between them and my lens added an unexpected twist to the narrative. The authenticity of Sam's heartfelt proposal, perfectly timed with the unintentional photo-bomb, became an endearing and utterly real snapshot. Saara's adorably overwhelmed reaction and Sam stepping out of his comfort zone for this special moment showcase the genuine, unscripted nature of love. Witnessing and capturing these raw, unfiltered emotions is why I love what I do - it's a celebration of love in its most authentic form.
How Do You Balance Being an Artist and a Documentarian in Your Photography?
As a documentarian, I’m attuned to the raw, unscripted moments that unfold organically. It's about capturing the genuine emotions, the unguarded glances, and the fleeting yet profound instances that narrate the real story. On the flip side, as an artist, I’m also obsessed with the visuals. Each frame is meticulously composed, a work of art that marries aesthetics with storytelling.
